Occupational Guidance
Occupational Guidance (O.G.) is the process through which individuals are assisted in clarifying options about their future in terms of training, employment and education. The Occupational Guidance Service provides information, advice, support and direction to people with disabilities.
Our Occupational Guidance Advisors will provide:
- Information on Rehabilitative Training Programmes and other HSE funded services
- Explore personal development options with people with disabilities
- Give advice and guidance on educational and training opportunities and entitlements
Rehabilitative Training is available to people with disabilities who would benefit from the development of their life skills, social skills and basic work skills.
APT is contracted by HSE Dublin Mid-Leinster to co-ordinate this training service in partnership with the HSE and non-statutory service providers. Many of the courses provided in the training centres in the region are FETAC accredited.
Participants can develop:
- Life Skills
- Social Skills
- Basic Work Skills
- Computer Skills
- Literacy Skills
- Numeracy Skills
- Creative Skills
While trainees are participating on the programmes, a training allowance is paid and any secondary benefits are not affected. It may be possible for trainees to attend courses on a part time basis.
To Qualify for Rehabilitative Training you should:
- Be 18 years of age or over
- Have a recognised disability
- Meet with an Occupational Guidance Advisor to be deemed eligible
How to access the Service:
- Self Referral
- Referral by family member or advocate
- Referral by a professional (educational/health/social welfare etc…)
